![]() "The OAT formulas approved by GM, called DexCool, contain 2-EHA and in most cases, sebacate, but there is no specific composition formula, only a performance test. ![]() See the SAE paper write up below and to quote: If it really makes you lose sleep, use the G12+ or G-05. That's why it is called "all makes all models" It also meets all the GM specs too.ĭon't worry about Dexcool or the Dexclones. Prestone uses 2-Ethyl Hexanoic Acid.the controversial additive used in Dexcool. There isn't a drop if the PO's green left to be found! Is the problem simply that of ignoring maintence? Is Never changing coolant akin to never changing engine oil?īTW, I've zero intermixing of product concerns. I pretty much land on the DexCool side of the fence and along comes someone with the experience and the knowledge of insyncro saying that he had multiple failures with the product.Īnd then I think. I've read extensively of the issues with the WBX leaky heads. I've read the posts both pro and con on Dexcool and GM's perceived headaches from it. if you go further down the list of numbers on that same page and for example pick part # 12346290, then run to your GM dealer …this is what you would get…a GM Dexcool branded product (color being the only difference )as shown on pg 20 here so to set record straight.Prestone is "not a dex-clone".but as said earlier, simply a different or newer formula from the original Havoline formula that GM does not use.Let me explain further.GM says that all there new cars have Dexcool installed…I think we can all agree with that…Now here for your viewing is an MSDS from a GM production facility on the type of coolant installed into the newer reads "Prestone Extended Life 5/150 Anti-freeze Coolant" supplier Honeywell. I chose the AMAM EL Prestone because if I have a hose or coolant leak on the road.I can find it anywhere at most FLAPS and make my repairs without worrying about finding G12+ or mixing coolants. I use Prestone "All Makes All Models" extended life antifreeze in the is a "Dex-clone" (chemistry is close to Dexcool.but different enough to avoid paying GM the big trademark licence fees) and l have no issues using it now for many years. I use the G12+ in my Audi.might use it in my WBX.except Makes 10 liters (2.7 gallons) of coolant when mixed 50/50 with distilled water. Napa has or can get the good German made G12+ bottled by Vaico in five liter jugs for $33. ![]() They had blue also that I figured was g11 but I guess maybe it's purple g13? Either way it's nice they finally carry this stuff so you no longer are forced to buy at the dealer or a specialty shop I just got some Pentofrost brand pink g12 at oriellys on Saturday. understanding coolants is actually very simple…its Dexcool all the way…a product that is all encompassing ( including some diesel applications ) is a universal long life coolant, being much safer for the environment since nitrite-, nitrate-, phosphate-, silicate-, borate and amines are no longer added, while at the same time providing the necessary protection thru heat transfer without having first to coat the inside the engine block…this product does the job for most vehicles world wide and is backward compatible (certain restrictions apply)…and then again there is the Dexcool with Silicate Technology.not the same as the silicate additive of the past that would drop over time…what is there not to like? It is boiling down to undertaking a program of confusing self education and based upon that, choose the poison which most appeals to you! The variations are now many and mind boggling, not unlike the change engine lubricants went through a few decades ago! I'm finding that Antifreeze, a once simple product has entered the realm of high technology. Quick sort: Show newest posts on top | Show oldest posts on top
